Candelario Elizondo
, Houston, has been practicing law for 31 years and has been appointed presiding judge for the city of West University Place.

*Harry J. Joe, Dallas, Jenkens and Gilchrist Immigration shareholder, has been appointed by Mayor Laura Miller to chair the Judicial Nominating Commission for the city of Dallas. He is a former mayor pro tem, city council member and Planning and Zoning Commission member for the city of Irving.

Michael P. West, Arlington, has been named executive director of the University of Texas at Arlington/Fort Worth Center. He had served as interim director since January 2005.

Pamela Eoff Salazar
, San Antonio, has joined Market Vision, a Latina-owned full-service marketing agency, to head its public relations department. Previously, she spent 13 years at the former Montemayor y Asociados, where she was senior vice president and director of public relations. She also has directed public relations efforts at the Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities, Our Lady of the Lake University and the Southwest Voter Registration Education Project. She taught in the communications department at the Instituto Tecnológico y de Estudios Superiores de Monterrey in Mexico.

*Euline Brock
(Ph.D.), Denton, received an award from the Texas Municipal League during its annual conference in Grapevine in October. The award recognized her efforts as an advocate for Denton and all Texas cities, citing her testimony before the Texas Legislature about the harmful effects of appraisal and revenue caps on city governance and citizens. She has served as mayor of Denton since 2000.

Mike Hill
, Dallas, is a senior information technology consultant and auditor with Jefferson Wells’ technology risk management group in Dallas. He says he is a renaissance man — he worked in computing operations at North Texas after graduation, then moved to Dallas into management information systems senior management. He earned an M.B.A. in management in 1996 and became a certified information systems auditor last year.

*Sparky Koerner (M.M.Ed.), Texas City, is a professor of music at College of the Mainland. At the Galveston Island Jazz & Blues Festival in October, he directed the college’s Jazz Combo and Jazz Ensemble and performed with his band, Sparky Koerner’s Jazz Express. In November he performed the J. Haydn Concerto for Trumpet in E-flat with the Galveston Symphony Orchestra, for which he is principal trumpet.

Garth Drozin
(M.M.), West Hills, Calif., is the new head of the litigation department and lead trial attorney at the Westlake Law Group in the Los Angeles area. He recently completed his first screenplay, “The Temple Effect,” for a feature-length film and still tinkers with music. His son, Aaron Michael Drozin, 7, made his movie debut as the son of the title characters in the December release Fun With Dick and Jane. Aaron had to speak half of his lines in Spanish and the other half in English with a Nicaraguan accent, and was coached by his father.

David Geis (’80 M.S.), Sunnyvale, retired from the Fort Worth ISD in August after 28 years of teaching special education in several fields. He now teaches driver’s education for Sears Driving School in Dallas. He says he is enjoying his retirement and hopes everyone at UNT today can finish their schooling and become successful in whatever field they apply themselves.

Sandy Wisener Sage, Denton, is retiring from UNT after 28 years of service. She spent the majority of that time in the University Writing Center, which she and Bill Warde developed in 1979.
