Charles English, Dallas, has been appointed president and chief professional officer of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Dallas. He previously served on the board of directors of the organization, which serves more than 10,000 inner-city youth. He was formerly vice president and corporate relationship manager for Compass Bank.

Richard Faulk, Houston, composed “The Passion According to King David,” which received its world premiere in April at the Good Friday Tenebrae Service at First Presbyterian Church in Houston. The piece was performed by members of the Houston Symphony and Metropolitan Opera baritone Vernon Hartman, under the baton of John Yarrington.

*Sparky Koerner (M.M.Ed.), Texas City, was a guest artist at the University of Texas-Tyler in March. He gave a clinic on jazz improvisation and performed with the UT-Tyler Jazz Ensemble, directed by John Webb (’80, ’82 M.M.Ed.). The College of the Mainland Jazz Combo, directed by Sparky, was named Outstanding Jazz Combo at the Texas A&M at Corpus Christi Jazz Festival in March.

Eileen O’Grady, Houston, joined the Houston bureau of Reuters America as a correspondent in March. She reports on power and utility industry issues. She and Michael Cinelli, who met as journalism majors at North Texas in 1977, celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary in January. Michael handles public relations for the Houston-based law firm Baker Botts LLP.

Kathy Howard-Williams, Fort Worth, has a master’s degree in consumer economics from Texas Woman’s University. She taught high school family and consumer sciences in the Fort Worth ISD for more than 18 years and has been a high school guidance counselor at Western Hills High School in Fort Worth for five years. She says she is divorced and has a wonderful 19-year-old son named Raynard.
